5th – Harry Strutters Hot Seven featuring vocalist Marlene Hill
REVIEWS:
John, Gwyn & Gill: “All our Favourite Tunes, excellent entertainment, a really enjoyable evening. Loved Marlene’s Hound Dog.”
Tony Baily: “Another great night with Maurice and the boys and of course Marlene.”
Jan, Veronica, & Paul: “Brilliant evening – fantastic musicians. Lovely to hear Marlene with her fantastic voice. Really good Jazz.”
Lesley Yvonne & Roger: “Gig Nights are primarily about Jazz, but they are SO much more enjoyable when humour and fun are part of the mix. A fabulous evening – made wonderful by the voice and style of Marlene Hill. Great music played by excellent musicians who were obviously enjoying them selves, and so did we.”
Tim & Andrew: “A really great band and even better when Marlene sings.”
M & J Bevington: “Lovely, especially vocalist Marlene. A very enjoyable evening.”
Maureen and John Carter: “Another band very popular with GJC led by Maurice Dennis , playing the whole range of 1920s – 1940s traditional jazz numbers. With the fine singing of Marlene Hill. An excellent evenings entertainment.”
19th – Chris Walker’s Pedigree Jazz Band
REVIEWS:
John & Brenda Bugg & Jean Petty: “For a band sponsored by Marstons Brewery, the rhythm section is extremely tight, in oddly, a non-alcoholic way. Front line is also tightly interwoven. They can play anything and did from Prokofiev to (Wilbur de) Paris. Andy Chislett, initials ‘AC’, is positively ‘electric’.”
Maureen & John Carter: “A return for the Pedigree Jazz Band and a return to their more usual line-up. What a band! The best we have had for some time and what a range of music. From Rossini to Barber and Bilk via Herb Alpert to Blueberry Hill.”
Robert & Brenda Davenport: “Great band. Bring them back again. Particularly liked the very exciting, talented, trumpet playing of Andy Chislett.”
Gill Richard & John: “An exceptionally good evening’s entertainment. Lots of old favourite which go back to the British trad era. A very polished band with excellent narratives from Chris. We didn’t want it to end.”
Barbara Bell & Norman March: “As two fans, we thought they were FANTASTIC.”
